Who, what, why? And the gateway 104/200

I hated these sort of places; the audience, mindless consumers eating their sugared goods, their stinking meat burgers, screaming and shouting whilst the animals remain trapped behind bars, or caged like her inside glass walls, having to sing for their supper. Or breakfast. This one is a killer whale for fuck’s sake and they’re getting it to perform for their payment at the door (albeit mainly by training it not to eat the human ’handlers’ who feed it). I came here to talk to the whale. To tell her she wasn’t alone and that we Espers would be breaking her out of this small pool and getting her back to the ocean.

I walked unseen past the fat security guard at the private gate; his mind pretty empty anyway, it just needed a ‘nudge’ from me for him to have no sight or memory of my passing. The air smelt of salt and ozone. And the whale felt me coming. She powered to the edge of her small pool, waves breaking over the edge, drenching me. I looked at her. Beautiful. Sleek, glistening. A leviathan that we’d soon release. She looked back at me. We both smiled. Minded the words to her: “Tomorrow, you’re free”.
